The first leaf’s lesson—where soil and sunlight write the story.

About Valerie Alvarado

Founder & Editor

I’ve spent more summers than I can count digging in the dirt, whether it was helping my grandpa plant his famous tomato garden or sneaking seeds from the grocery store to grow my own tiny green world in a shoebox. There’s something about watching something grow from nothing that never gets old.

This site is where I share the lessons I’ve learned—from the big wins to the lessons that only come after a few too many failed experiments. If you’re just starting out or have been gardening for decades, I hope you’ll find something here to make your green thumb a little greener.
